Douglas B It true that there is nothing new here. Two women (this time elderly) embark on an adventure that teaches them they have settled for i filled lives and there is more out in the world. We have seen this before, especially in films like "Shirley Valentine" that dis it better. The secret sauce to this movie is Joan Collins and Pauline Collins (Shirley Valentine herself). This is probably Joan Collins best performance of her career. She allows us to see her stripped down and fully vulnerable. Pauline Collins plays a woman who has lead a miserable life after the accidental death of her and the unyielding blame of her husband. When Helen (Joan) and Priscilla (Pauline) meet, Priscilla's husband is berating her for wanting to purchase some fancy biscuits. Through a misunderstanding, Priscilla joins Helen on an adventure and the realization of what they wasted, but also what is still ahead of them. Both women give extraordinary performances that make this movie worthwhile. If you liked "Educating Rita" and "Shirley Valentine", you will like "The Times of Their Lives". Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/23 Full Review Jim F I loved this movie. Shades of Shirley Valentine with great performances from Pauline Collins and Joan Collins. This is a Road Movie about 80 somethings and I found it charming. It covers life choices, regrets and moving forward. Haven't read any other reviews so won't try to counter them. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/23 Full Review Dina E It was a quirky fun movie with satisfying ending. The characters were a bit cliche, but love to see Joan Collins in an act that was honest and refreshing. I think the critics are too beholden to big productions, and missed a sleeper. So tired of over produced, ridiculous special effects junk out there. Heartwarming. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Andrea K I found myself liking this movie in spite of the issues with the story and the chemistry between the characters. It may be the end when I could see the potential for a friendship between the two women. It works after Priscilla leaves frank and Helen is rejected by her daughter Lucy. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/22 Full Review Audience Member Can't understand why this wasn't a hit. It's very funny. Joan's character must have been written for her as you can't see anyone (except maybe Joanna Lumley) making such a good job of it. Certainly anyone over 60 should love it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review jonathan m Could of been better and more Lucile Ball style capers 3 stars just for the longevity of their career Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
